Coronavirus In Lake County April 20: 9 New Deaths, 292 New Cases

This brings the total number of coronavirus cases in Lake County to 2,224, including 80 deaths, the health department said on April 20.

LAKE COUNTY, IL β€” The Lake County Health Department reported Monday nine new deaths due to the coronavirus 292 additional cases of the coronavirus since Friday in Lake County. This brings the total number of coronavirus cases in Lake County to 2,224, including 80 deaths, according to health officials.

The nine deaths reported include:

  • One man in his 40s with underlying medical conditions
  • Two men in their 50s, one with underlying medical conditions
  • One woman in her 60s
  • Two men and one woman in their 70s, all with underlying medical conditions
  • One man in his 90s with underlying medical conditions
  • One man age 100+ with underlying medical conditions

The health department is investigating 27 long-term care facilities in the county that have two or more positive cases. These 27 facilities have a combined total of 372 confirmed cased of the coronavirus and 49 deaths.

β€œOur Health Department continues to focus a tremendous amount of effort on long-term care facilities in Lake County, doing everything we can to protect our most vulnerable residents,” Lake County Health Department Executive Director Mark Pfister said, in a news release. β€œEach facility in our county has a dedicated liaison who provides guidance to help prevent COVID-19 infections from occurring, and for any facility with a confirmed case, a Communicable Disease investigator provides daily support.”

Several areas across Lake County have seen an increase in cases of the coronavirus in the last week, including more than 200 in Waukegan.

  • Grayslake: 35 to 39
  • Round Lake: 75 to 79
  • Round Lake Beach: 35 to 39
  • Libertyville: 45 to 49
  • Lindenhurst: 20 to 24
  • Waukegan: 595 to 599 cases
  • Gurnee: 80 to 84 cases
  • Vernon Hills: 40 to 44
  • Mundelein: 70 to 74
  • Lake Forest: 75 to 79
  • Beach Park: 140 to 144
  • Zion: 140 to 144
  • Lake Villa: 30 to 34

"The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads mainly through respiratory droplets shared by coughing, sneezing, and talking when you're in close proximity to another person," Lake County Health Department Executive Director Mark Pfister said, in the news release. "We ask residents to stay the course with social distancing. We all have to do our part to stop the spread of this illness. Stay home, save lives."
