Coroner IDs Man Killed In House Fire At Mom's House On Mother's Day

Thomas Morley was killed after he tried to escape the house fire in the 17800 block of West Winnebago Drive in unincorporated Grayslake.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified the 44-year-old Grayslake man who died inside his mother's home during an early morning blaze on Mother's Day.

Thomas Morley was killed after he tried to escape the house fire in the 17800 block of West Winnebago Drive in unincorporated Grayslake. His mother, a 63-year-old woman, was able to safely get out and was not injured, according to authorities.

Preliminary results from an autopsy show Morley died from inhalation of products of combustion as a results of a fire, according to a news release from the coroner's office.

Authorities were first called to the fire at about 12:40 a.m. When fire crews arrived, they entered the home and found Morley, who was not conscious and was not breathing.

He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature but the cause does remain under investigation, authorities said Monday. The Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office, Lake County Sherifaf's Office and local fire officials are investigating the blaze.
