Coroner IDs Women Killed When Car Collides With Dump Truck

The collision happened Wednesday morning at Chardon Road and Fairfield Road in unincorporated Wauconda.

WAUCONDA, IL — Two women killed in a collision near Wauconda have been identified.

Preliminary results from an autopsy show Carmen Zeron, 48, of Waukegan, and Angelica Juarez, 55, of Round Lake Beach, both died from blunt force injuries as a result of Wednesday's collision, according to a Lake County Coroner's Office news release.

That crash happened while Zeron was driving a 2007 Nissan Versa west on Fairfield Road at Chardon Road in unincorporated Wauconda at about 8 a.m. Wednesday and collided with a dump truck, which was headed north on Fairfield Road, according to police.

There was a stop sign on Chardon Road at the intersection but no stop sign or traffic stop on Farfield, police said. The dump truck, which was carrying concrete and gravel, rolled over following the crash and spilled some of its contents.

Zero was pronounced dead at the scene, and Juarez, a backseat passenger in the Nissan, was also killed, authorities said.

A front seat passenger, a 45-year-old Round Lake Beach woman, was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening, according to authorities.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
