Cupcakes and More Available at Cacao Sweets & Treats

Candice Hunsinger has always dreamed of opening her own bakery.

For the past three years, she's been selling her creations, from cupcakes to truffles, at the Grayslake Farmers Market. But on May 24, she will officially open her own bakery, Cacao Sweets & Treats.

The shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 122 Center St.

"I'm excited," said Hunsinger.

The shop, she said, was designed to have a "comfortable, throwback" look, with its pink walls, large couch, and vintage chairs and decor. The display cases are filled with a variety of cupcakes—Meyer Lemon was slated to be a featured flavor on opening day—and other treats. Hunsinger said standard flavors of cupcakes—vanilla, chocolate and red velvet—will be available every day, along with a rotating menu of other flavors.

"I specialize in 'tipsy cupcakes,'" she said, referring to the adult beverage-themed cupcakes, like mimosa.

There are also jars brimming with cookies.

Cacao specializes in natural and organic sweets. The eggs, for example, come from Prairie Crossing, Hunsinger said. She also plans to offer a variety of breads, and she makes and sells her own mayonnaise.
