Dog Trapped In Burning Grayslake Home Rescued: Fire Chief

According to fire officials, the family wasn't home at the time of the fire.

GRAYSLAKE, IL — A dog was rescued by firefighters after it became trapped in a burning Grayslake home Tuesday afternoon. According to The Daily Herald, neighbors saw smoke coming out of the roof of a two-story home on the 400 block of Rock Hall Circle, and called 911, Grayslake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Jim Weidman said. Firefighters arrived at the scene at 12:51 p.m., and Weidman said neighbors told them the family had a dog that was still inside the home, according to the news report.

Firefighters found the dog inside a cage on the first floor, and the owners weren't home. The Daily Herald reported firefighters fought the blaze, mostly containing it to the attic, according to Weidman, who added that the family will not be able to live at the home for a while due to fire and water damage. However, Weidman said investigators were at the scene until around 5 p.m., and have not yet determined the cause of the fire, the news source reported.

According to The Daily Herald, crews from Gurnee and Round Lake Fire Departments helped Grayslake fire crews at the scene, and most of the firefighters left by about 2:50 p.m. Weidman said.
