Driver Becomes Stuck in Car After It Goes Into Pond: Officials

GRAYSLAKE, IL — One person became trapped inside their vehicle after it plunged into a pond off of South Atkinson Road Friday afternoon in Grayslake.

Officers were called to the pond, which is adjacent to 100 S. Atkinson Road, at about 12:10 p.m. for a report of an occupied vehicle in the water. When officers arrived, they saw the vehicle was about to go under water and that one person was trapped inside, according to a news release from the Grayslake Police Department.

The Grayslake Fire Department responded as well and helped get the driver out of the vehicle, authorities said. The driver was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
