Flood Warning Issued For Des Plaines River Impacting Lake County
Minor flooding is expected in the Des Plaines River near Gurnee and Russell, according to the National Weather Service.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Des Plaines River near Gurnee and Russell will be under a flood warning Sunday night to Wednesday night, issued by the National Weather Service. This affects Lake County. More specifically, the National Weather Service said the flood warning runs from the Des Plaines River near Russell, or from the Illinois/Wisconsin state line downstream to Route 41 in Gurnee.
At 8:30 a.m. Saturday, the stage was 5.1 feet, and the flood stage is 7 feet.
Minor flooding is forecasted, as water is expected to rise above the flood stage by Monday morning and continue to rise to near 7.7 feet by Tuesday morning, according to the alert.

Agricultural land and park lands flood at 8 feet, as water can approach a homes near railroad tracks. Therefore, the National Weather Service advises people who encounter a flooded roadway to turn around and find an alternate route.

As for the state, the National Weather Service reports a powerful storm system will impact the area Saturday and Sunday. There is a risk for significant severe weather Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening for parts of northern Illinois. There could be tornadoes, hail and damaging wind gusts with these storms.
