Flood Warning Issued For Des Plaines River In Northern Lake Co.
The river is above flood stage from Gurnee to the Wisconsin-Illinois border. Minor flooding is forecasted for areas along the river.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Des Plaines River near Gurnee and Russell.
As of Wednesday morning, minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is in the forecast for the Des Plaines River form the Illinois-Wisconsin border downstream to where the river intersects with Highway 41 in Gurnee, according to the National Weather Service.
As of 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, the flood stage was at 7.8 feet and is expected to rise to a crest just after midnight tonight. The flood stage along the river is 7 feet, and at 8 feet, agricultural and park land near the river becomes inundated

Residential property near the river could face flooding problems, according to the National Weather Service. Those living along rivers and streams in the warned area should take immediate precautions.
The National Weather Service is urging anyone who comes upon a flooded road to turn around.

The river is expected to dip back below flood stage by Saturday. The flood warning will be in effect through early Sunday.
The flood forecasts are based on observed precipitation as well as forecast precipitation 48 hours into the future. Changes to the rainfall forecast, or any additional rainfall after 48 hours, may
cause changes to these river forecasts.
A chance of snow is in the forecast after midnight Thursday and the precipitation could mix with rain. Snow, which is also possibly mixed with rain, is forecast for during the day Friday and Friday night.
