Grayslake Central, North Runners Qualify for State
Check out the results of the Grayslake Central and Palatine High School Sectional meets.

A number of Grayslake Central and Grayslake North runners qualified for the state track meet following the girls Grayslake Central Sectional, held May 9 and the Palatine High School Sectional, held May 10.
GCHS placed second at the sectional meet with 89 points, with Lakes Community High School of Lake Villa taking first with 103 points, according to the IHSA website.
GCHS senior Cara Engal took first place in the pole vault. Senior Jamie Mara took first in the 100-meter high hurdles; she also won third place in the 300-meter low hurdles. Runners also took first in the 4x200-meter relay, including Engal, Maddie Jacobs, Sara O'Malley and Leah Kloss. Kloss, a junior, also took first in the 200-meter dash.
GCHS also scored a couple second-place finishes, including the 4x800-meter relay team (O'Malley, Kia Gomez, Claire Haggerty and Elsie Rehberg), along with freshman Alexa Schmitt in the high jump, according to the IHSA website.
Rehberg and Haggerty, both seniors, took sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 1600-meter run.
At the Palatine Sectional, Grayslake North freshman Allie O'Connell took first place in the 100-meter high hurdles.
The state meet will be held May 16-18.
