Grayslake High School District Installing Solar Panels

Construction on solar panels at Grayslake High School District starts in August.

GRAYSLAKE, IL - New solar panels will be installed on the rooftops to reduce energy costs at Grayslake Central and North High Schools.

The special-use permits received approval by 4-0 votes last week by the Grayslake village board, the Daily Herald reports. Grayslake High School District 127 will borrow $5.9 million for the new project through a bond sale to investors to become an income source and cut energy costs.

A total of 1,920 solar panels will be installed at Grayslake Central's roof, while another 2,245 panels will be mounted at Grayslake North's roof, followed by 4,590 panels on 25 acres of vacant land near the school, the Daily Herald reports.
