Grayslake North Lacrosse Bests Grayslake Central

Both teams are headed to the state playoffs.

The Knights from Grayslake North finished off the regular season with a 17-7 win over Grayslake Central and improved to 15-4 on the season with their 12th straight win.

In front of a huge crowd with the help of over 150 Grayslake Youth Lacrosse League participants, North jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The defense led by Goalie Eric York, as well as first team All-Conference selection Ben Smith, were steady all night. Shane Pech, Kevin Carter, Jake Lamb and Ian Pearce were rock solid in keeping Grayslake Central off balance all night.

The offense was led by AJ Fish with 5 goals and 4 assists, and Brendan Walker added 4 goals and assist. Other top scorers were All-Conference performers: Jack Mattea (2 goals and assist), David Collins with a goal and assist and Freddie Williams with 2 goals. Farhan Khan came back from an injury and was more than effective, with 3 goals and 1 assist.

Brandon Bong was a difference maker at the face-off circle. The fourth quarter saw many players for North taking the field with Tyler Lyon, Alex Cordova, Jake McCue, Sean Monaghan, Logan Morita, Alex Fletcher and Danny McShane making major contribution during that span.

For Central, Nick Block was a force with 3 goals and was all over the field scooping up 7 ground balls. Freshman Kyle Dinsmore was tough in goal all night for the Rams as well. Next week has both teams heading into the State Playoffs.

Grayslake North (ranked fifth in the state among A schools) takes on Highland Park at 5 p.m. at home on Wednesday.

Grayslake Central (ranked third in the State among B schools) takes on the winner of Wheaton Academy and Saint Laurence and will play at home on Wednesday.
