UPDATED: Grayslake Schools Announce Friday Closures

A winter storm expected to bring blizzard-like conditions is set to start Thursday night and continue through Friday.

GRAYSLAKE, IL — Grayslake schools will be closed Friday as the Chicago area preps for a massive winter storm.

District 46 schools will be closed Friday, and students will participate in e-learning instead. Community High School District 127 has also cancelled classes for Friday, opting to switch to e-learning.

  • Precious Lambs Preschool, Grayslake
  • St. Gilbert School, Grayslake
  • St. Bede School, Ingleside
  • Antioch Public Library District in Antioch

The first round of wet snow will start after midnight. The weather service said there could be a few hours on Friday morning where snow impacts the morning commute, with snow rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, mainly along and north of Interstate 80.

There will be a brief lull in the snow on Friday morning before more heavy, wet snow develops midday and into Friday afternoon, especially for areas north and west of I-55, according to the weather service.

The worst impacts from the winter storm will likely be Friday afternoon through early Saturday.
