Island Lake Man, Gurnee Man ID'd In Fatal Wauconda Crash
An Island Lake man and a Gurnee man were killed in a wrong way, head-on crash Thursday, April 16 in Wauconda, according to police.

WAUCONDA, IL β Authorities have released the names of the two men killed Thursday morning during a wrong way, head-on crash in Wauconda. Kyle J. DeKruif, 25, from Island Lake, and Montana R. Brown, 24, from Gurnee, have been identified as the victims in the crash, Wauconda Police Department Detective Heather Cognac confirmed to Patch.
According to a Thursday news release from the Wauconda Police Department, officers were called at 2:16 a.m. to the northbound lanes of Route 12 near Route 59 for an accident involving a Honda Odyssey and a Freightliner delivery truck. Although the investigation into the crash is ongoing, according to police, early investigation shows the Honda was headed southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 12 when it hit the delivery truck head-on.
According to the investigation, DeKruif was driving the Honda and Brown was a passenger in the car during the crash. Both were both pronounced dead at the crash site, according to the news release.

The 23-year-old man who was driving the delivery truck during the crash was taken to Condell Hospital.

The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT), Wauconda Fire District, Lake County Sheriff's office, Lake Zurich Police Department, and Island Lake Police Department assisted Wauconda Police Department, the news release said.
