What does the local hero do?

Meals on Wheels Northeastern Illinois volunteers Greg and Sara Miller are being honored for their unwavering dedication to service with one year of free vehicle maintenance from Jiffy Lube, to ensure their car remains road-ready year-round on their meal delivery routes.

Why do you believe the local hero should be recognized or honored?

The Millers have spent their Saturday mornings volunteering for Meals on Wheels Northeastern Illinois for over two years. Each week they break away from their busy schedules and drive two and a half hours delivering meals to up to 10 seniors along their route while spending quality time together. Greg and Sara both find joy in helping others and getting to volunteer together.

“The ultimate spirit of Meals on Wheels is more than delivering food, it’s creating conversations with people,” said the Millers. “Volunteering with Meals on Wheels has allowed us to not only spend quality time with each other, but also share our quality time with someone who needs it.”

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the local hero?

The need remains high in Northeastern Illinois regarding senior hunger and isolation. One in six of the rapidly growing older adult population struggles to access food. This need is experienced through every range of household incomes represented in the Northeastern Illinois community. With more than 25,000 community members in need, Meals on Wheels Northeastern Illinois is quickly building to meet the massive demand.

Thank you for all you do, Greg and Sara Miller!
