Man Accused Of Firing Shots During Armed Robbery In Round Lake Bar Parking Lot

A man is being held on a $350,000 bond after he allegedly fired shots while trying to rob two victims in the parking lot of a bar in Round Lake, police and court records said.

Jaime Gonzalez, 26, of Volo, was charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated discharge of a firearm and two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Round Lake Police Chief Davis Prus told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the incident happened in the parking lot of Rail House Bar and Grill, 415 Railroad Avenue in Round Lake, on November 14.

Two adult victims were walking to their car after leaving the establishment when Gonzalez allegedly approached them.

He was armed with a gun and tried robbing the victims of money, Prus said. A struggle ensued and Gonzalez allegedly fired two shots at the victims. Prus said investigators believe the crime was a “moment of opportunity” and not a drug transaction gone wrong.

Gonzalez was unsuccessful in stealing any of the victims’ belongings or cash, Prus added.

No injuries were reported and the incident was captured on video.

Investigators recovered a gun and other physical evidence. Gonzalez was positively identified in a photo lineup.

A judge issued an arrest warrant carrying a $350,000 bond on November 29, court records show.

Gonzalez later self-surrendered on the warrant and was transported to the Lake County Jail.

He remains held in the jail and would need to post $35,000 cash in order to be released.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 29.
