Man With Alzheimer's Falls Into Retention Pond, Drowns: Police

An 89-year-old Hainseville man is dead after police pulled him from a retention pond near his home early Monday morning.

HAINSEVILLE, IL β€” An 89-year-old man with Alzheimer's disease drowned early Monday after he wandered from his house and fell into a nearby retention pond, according to fire officials.

Authorities said firefighters and police responded to a call of a person in the pond at around 12:50 a.m. Monday on the 0-100 block of Brittaney Lane.

When they arrived, police said they pulled the man from the pond and administered CPR. He was taken to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead a few hours later.

Police said they are still investigating the incident. The man's identity has not yet been released pending an autopsy.
