Harvard Resident Dies In Antioch Car Accident
58-year-old Gregory C. Peña died "due to medical emergency prior to the crash; his death was ruled natural," said the Lake County Coroner.

A 58-year-old Harvard man died after suffering a medical emergency, causing him to crash his SUV into a guardrail in Antioch on Tuesday.

The Antioch Police Department and Antioch Fire Department responded around 10:07 p.m. Tuesday to the 1000 block of West Route 173 for a report of a single-vehicle crash with injuries.
Antioch Police Department Sgt. Charles Smith said that first responders located the driver of a red Chevy Trailblazer unresponsive after the vehicle had crashed into a guardrail near SkipperBud’s.

Lifesaving measures were attempted on the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, Smith said.
The man was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead just before 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the driver was Gregory C. Peña, 58, of Harvard.

Peña died due to medical emergency just prior to the crash and his death was ruled natural, Cooper said. Peña leaves behind his son, wife and brother, according to his obituary.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team is assisting the Antioch Police Department with the investigation.
