Man Faces Charges For Voting Several Times In 2020 Election

A Kildeer man has been charged with perjury after allegedly voting more than once in Lake County in the 2020 United States presidential election, court records show.

James M. Kunik, 54, of Kildeer, was charged with one count of perjury in election code, a Class 3 felony, and one count of voting more than once, a Class 3 felony.

A criminal complaint filed in Lake County Circuit Court alleges Kunik made a false statement in an affidavit on November 3, 2020. He signed a ballot affidavit that stated he had not already voted in the 2020 General Election, which was false, the complaint said.

Kunik accepted a ballot in the election at his polling place and voted in person after he had previously voted by mail in the same election, the complaint said.

State records show Kunik’s polling place is at Quentin Road Bible Baptist Church in Lake Zurich.

The case was investigated by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The state’s attorney’s office declined to provide further information on the case, citing an ongoing investigation.

A Lake County judge found probable cause in the case and issued a warrant carrying a $30,000 bond.

The warrant was issued on December 8 and Kunik was taken into the custody of the Lake County Jail on December 13.

He was released from the jail after posting 10% of his $30,000 bond, jail records show.

A status of attorney hearing is scheduled for January 4.
