Man Holds Woman Hostage, Kills Her Dog: Police

A 40-year-old Beach Park man now faces charges in connection with the Sunday morning incident.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 40-year-old Beach Park man faces charges in connection to accusations he held the mother of his child hostage and killed her dog, authorities said.

Adrian Rivera, of the 10400 block of West Crissy Avenue in Beach Park, has been charged with aggravated domestic battery involving strangulation, two counts of unlawful possession of firearm by a felon, failure of a sexual offender to report a change of address, unlawful restraint, aggravated animal cruelty, two counts of domestic battery and child endangerment.

Rivera is accused of beating a woman at their home in Beach Park before arming himself with a knife and forcing her to drive to a Wadsworth home where their child was being "kept safe from Rivera's violence," police said.

They arrived at the home in the 13000 block of West 28th Place in Wadsworth at about 8:45 a.m. Sunday. The woman got their child and Rivera forced her back into the car with the child, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Rivera threatened to kill the woman and her family if she did not comply.

The woman's family called police to report the incident and deputies located the vehicle and pulled the car over. Rivera was taken into custody, according to a news release.

Deputies also learned Rivera bludgeoned the woman's dog to death and placed its body in a cooler at the home, police said. Deputies found the dead dog and two firearms belonging to Rivera at the home.

Additional charges are possible in the case, according to authorities.
