Motorcyclist Dies 2 Weeks After Gurnee Collision

The collision happened on May 23. Frank Rodriguez, 57, of Round Lake Beach, died Sunday.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 57-year-old Round Lake Beach man has died two weeks after a collision in Gurnee, authorities said Wednesday.

Frank Rodriguez was pronounced dead on Sunday in the intensive care unit at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, according to a news release from the Lake County Coroner's Office.

Rodriguez was receiving treatment for injuries sustained after his motorcycle collided with a sports utility vehicle in the area of Grand Avenue and Spruce Street at about 7:20 p.m. on May 23, according to the coroner's office. Rodriguez was transported to Condell following the collision.

Police say the crash occurred when a Toyota SUV headed west on Grand Avenue attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot on the north side of the street. The SUV collided with Rodriguez's motorcycle, which was headed west on Grand Avenue in the far-right lane.

Preliminary results from an autopsy show Rodriguez died from blunt force injuries suffered as a result of a crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
