No Injuries After HVAC Unit On Roof Of Laundromat Catches On Fire

No one was injured after an HVAC unit on the roof of a laundromat in Round Lake Beach caught on fire Wednesday evening.

The Round Lake Beach Police Department, Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District, Grayslake Fire Protection District, Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Wauconda Fire District responded at 6:19 p.m. Wednesday to 24 Hour Laundry Depot, 1030 North Cedar Lake Road, in Round Lake Beach.

A driver passing by saw smoke coming from the roof of the building, Greater Round Lake Fire Prevention Specialist Bruce Hill said.

Firefighters arrived and confirmed smoke was coming from the roof.

Additional fire departments and apparatus were requested to the scene.

Hill said that a fire was contained to an HVAC unit on the roof of the laundromat.

Crews deployed a ladder tower and extinguished the fire from the sky.

Firefighters also set up a ground ladder to climb onto the roof of the building.

A nearby fire hydrant was used for a water supply.

No one was injured, Hill said.

Round Lake Beach police officers temporarily shut down the southbound lanes of North Cedar Lake Road while crews worked the incident.

There were only a few cars in the parking lot of the laundromat and all the occupants had already evacuated when firefighters arrived, Hill said.

An exact cause of the fire or a damage estimate was not available because the fire remains under investigation.
