Open Enrollment for LCDOT Adopt-A-Highway Program 2017
Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) is currently looking for volunteers to join the Adopt-A-Highaway program.
From Lake County Transportation: The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) is currently looking for volunteers to help pick up litter and debris along Lake County highways and bike paths. Volunteers adopt a section of a county highway, and commit to cleaning it twice a year. LCDOT provides the equipment (safety vests and bags), we just need you to provide the manpower (or kidpower)! When your cleanup is done, LCDOT will collect your garbage bags and recycling bags from the side of the road. Learn more.
Who should be in my Adopt-A-Highway group?
An Adopt-A-Highway group should have at least eight to ten people to help with the workload, but you can have as many as you like. Participants must be ten or older, and we need parental supervision for anyone under 18. Your group might be family, friends, neighbors, co-workers or any other environmentally friendly minded people you know.
What is the impact of the Adopt-A-Highway Program?
In 2016, Adopt-A-Highway Volunteers collected approximately 245,000 pounds of materials from Lake County roads and bike paths. About 40% of the total collection last year was able to be recycled, meaning these volunteers not only cleared trash from the roadway, but they were able to divert a good portion of the materials away from the landfill as well. An active group can easily fill 15 bags in one cleanup day!
