People of all ages, both supporters and survivors, will descend upon Round Lake Senior High School Saturday for the annual Relay for Life of the Grayslake/Round Lake Areas.
So far, 17 teams with 128 participants have raised $22,431 for the event, which will be held from 6 p.m. July 20 until 6 a.m. July 21.Â
Kristina Eddy, income development representative for the American Cancer Society's Lakeshore Division, said this year's goal is $90,000. In 2012, the Relay for Life of Grayslake/Round Lake brought in $76,862, Eddy said.
A number of events are on tap for the Relay, including:
- 4 p.m. - Survivor reception
- 5 p.m. - Scavenger hunt
- 5 p.m. - Silent auction opens and will be held until 7 p.m.
- 6 p.m. - Opening ceremonies
- 6:45 p.m. - Survivor, caregiver and team laps
- 7 p.m. - Mr. Relay contest
- 8 p.m. - Elvis impersonator, water balloon toss
- 9:30 p.m. - Frozen t-shirt contest
- 10:15 p.m. - Luminaria ceremony
- Midnight: Fight Back ceremony/Birthday party
- 2 a.m. - Hula Hoop contest
- 3 a.m. - 80s party
- 5:30 a.m. - Closing ceremonies
