Police said a preliminary investigation shows the man was traveling eastbound on Rollins Road when he attempted to change lanes, catching the gravel shoulder. This caused him to lose control of the motorcycle and crash into the ditch.

While the crash is still under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit, officials said McPherson was likely thrown from his motorcycle when it crashed.
