Several Credit Cards Belonging To Others Found On Driver: Police
A police chase in northern Lake County ended with authorities taking a 22-year-old man into custody Tuesday night.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — Authorities found several credit cards belonging to other people while taking a man into custody following a police chase in Lake County Tuesday night.
A Lake County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted a red Chevrolet sedan traveling at a high rate of speed at about 9 p.m. on Tuesday on Route 41 near Wadsworth Road in Wadsworth, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
The car pulled into a gas station at Route 41 and Wadsworth Road, and, when a deputy pulled behind the car, the driver fled, speeding north in the southbound lanes of Route 41, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

The deputy lost sight of the fleeing vehicle and found it abandoned near Kelly Road and Mill Creek Road close to Wadsworth, according to police. A short time later, a 911 caller reported seeing two people running west across the tollway.
A Gurnee Police Department K9 Team and a drone operator with the Libertyville Police Department were called to assist with the incident.

Using the drone, the drone operator found two people hiding in a tree line west of the tollway. Deputies responded to the area where they arrested the driver of the car, Shelmar K. Mays, Jr., 28, of the 4100 block of Continental Drive in Waukegan.
Police found numerous credit cards belonging to other people on Mays. They also found multiple baggies of cannabis on him, according to a news release.
Mays has been charged with unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, obstructing justice, driving while license revoked, fleeing to elude, reckless driving and numerous traffic violations.
Police seized Mays' vehicle and are planing to apply for a search warrant in order to search the vehicle, according to the news release.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and Mays is expected in court for his initial appearance on Wednesday.
