Teen Accused Of Attacking Deputies During Arrest

The 17-year-old boy now faces battery charges in connection with the Sunday afternoon incident near Antioch.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A teen faces charges for allegations he attacked two Lake County Sheriff's Office deputies over the weekend near Antioch.

The deputies were called to home in the 25000 block of Grass Lake Road in unincorporated Antioch at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday for a report of a domestic battery in progress. Police learned a 17-year-old by punched a family member several times in the face at the residence, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

While attempting to take the boy into custody, a 17-year-old girl grabbed at the belt and baton of one of the deputies, trying to prevent the officer from arrest her friend, police said. While she tried to interfere with the arrest, the boy bit the arm of the other deputy.

He then broke free and ran away before hew as tackled by one of the deputies. The teen continued to try to get away and punched the deputy in the face twice. The other deputy took the girl into custody after she tried to grab his taser, and both deputies were then able to place handcuffs on the boy.

Both juveniles were transported to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office criminal investigations division. Sheriff’s detectives referred the boy to juvenile court on the charges of four counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, four counts of resisting arrest causing injury and aggravated domestic battery.

Petitions and referrals are also expected to be filed for the girl.

Neither deputy was injured during the incident.
