'Uptick' In Domestic Disturbance Calls Amid Coronavirus: Sheriff
The Lake County sheriff's office has seen an uptick in domestic disturbance calls across Lake County as the stay-at-home order is in place.
LAKE COUNTY, IL β The Lake County Sheriff's office released a weekly arrest summary detailing crimes reported on March 30 through April 5. Because of the current coronavirus pandemic and stay-at-home order issued by Governor J.B. Pritzker last month, Patch reached out to the sheriff's department to see whether there's been a change in the number of crimes reported across the county, and if so, a change in the number of any particular crime(s) reported over the last two weeks.
The weekly arrest summary details reports which result in arrests, and from March 30 through April 5, there were 13. Four of the 13 were domestic disturbance arrests.
According to Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli, the sheriff's office has seen a decrease in routine calls for minor crimes, such as thefts, but there's been an increase in calls for a different type of crime.

"We have however seen an uptick in domestic disturbance calls," Covelli told Patch in an email. "In the past week weβve responded to 35 domestic disturbances, which have resulted in some arrests (as you can see on the weekly summary)."

However, Covelli added that many of the domestic cases are arguments which didnβt result in violence, and responding members of the sheriff's office were able to interact with those involved and successfully calm down the situations.
