GRAYSLAKE, IL — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we're working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Anthony Cruz, husband of nominee, Jane Danley Cruz. Jane has been battling cancer but has taken the time to make thousands of masks for nursing homes and Indian reservations.

Reason for recognition: My wife has been battling breast cancer since March 18. In that time she has made approximately four thousand masks for nursing homes and Indian reservations. She's even got tagged by Mark Ruffalo and Harrison Ford for her help. All while battling cancer.

One thing to know: She has the biggest heart I know
