2 Dead In Highland Park Apartment, Resident Charged With Murder
Barry Goldberg, a 45-year-old Highland Park man, is charged with the murder of two people found dead Wednesday morning in his apartment.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — A Highland Park man has been charged with murder following the discovery of a pair of bodies in his apartment Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Barry Goldberg, 45, is due to appear in court in Waukegan for a bond hearing Thursday after prosecutors approved two counts of first-degree murder.
Officers dispatched to a wellness check found two people dead inside his unit in the Albion Highland Park apartment building at 1850 Green Bay Road, according to city officials.

Police forced their way into the apartment after they "observed apparent blood under the door," staff said in a statement.
According to a spokesperson for the Lake County Coroner's Office, the identities of the victims — one man and one woman — would be released after the completion of autopsies scheduled for Thursday.

City officials said in a statement there was "no known threat to public safety."
No information was available from authorities about any alleged motive in the incident, and it was not clear if Goldberg had confessed to the slayings.
City staff pledged to work with the property manager to offer support to tenants in the building, which opened in April 2021.
Barry Goldberg was, along with Ronald and Renee Goldberg, last month named as a defendant in an eviction proceeding in Lake County Court filed by Albion Jacobs Highland Park LLC, the owner of the building.
Nine days after it was filed, the case was dismissed for want of prosecution, with a status hearing set for later this month, records show.
The discovery of the two bodies came just over two months after the bloodiest mass shooting in the state's history took place about two blocks away during the Highland Park Independence Day parade.
