HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

VEHICLE BUYING SCAM
Police got a report of a theft in the 1300 block of Half Day Road on Sept. 23. They were told someone who had been offering a vehicle for sale had accepted $20,000 as payment without providing any vehicle.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone stole a Bottega Veneta purse from a home in the 700 block of Central Avenue at some point prior to 1 p.m. on Sept. 29 for a loss of about $3,500.

STOLEN CARS

  • Someone stole an white Porche Macan from a parking lot in the 400 block of Central Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 28 after it was left unlocked with its keys inside.
  • Someone stole a black Dodge Charger from a driveway in the 800 block of Old Trail Road. It may have been left unlocked with the keys inside.
  • Someone stole an unlocked white Mercedes from the driveway of a home in the 500 block of Sumac prior to 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 15. It may have been left unlocked with its keys inside.
  • Someone stole a possibly unlocked Honda CRV from a driveway in the 1100 block of Green Bay Road at some point prior to 3:15 a.m. on Sept. 20.

  • Someone stole an unspecified amount of candy from the Casey's, 1333 Half Day Road, at some point prior to 1 a.m. on Aug. 21.
  • Someone stole a coffee and a sandwich from the Casey's, 1333 Half Day Road, at some point prior to 9 a.m. on Aug. 22.
  • Someone stole a Bose speaker valued at $750 from the Guitar Center, 143 Skokie Valley Road, around 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 24.
  • Staff at the CVS, 2000 Skokie Valley Road, reported on Aug. 25 that someone had bought five Visa gift cards valued at $2,500 combined, but the person only paid $600.
  • Someone stole a grill lighter from the Casey's, 1333 Half Day Road, at some point prior to 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 27.
  • Someone stole a ring valued at $1,600 from a display at Ascendant Jewelry Studio, 610 Central Ave.
  • Two vacuums, pants, shoes and socks were reported stolen from the Target, 2099 Skokie Valley Road, at some point prior to 1 p.m. on Sept. 4 for an unknown loss.
  • Staff at the Walgreens, 655 Elm Place, reported around 10 a.m. on Sept. 7 that someone had come into the store, grabbed a bottle of vodka and drank the entire bottle while in the store's bathroom for a loss of about $4.
  • Two people stole various cosmetic items valued at about $1,160 from the Walgreens, 655 Elm Place, prior to 3:15 p.m. on Sept. 7.
  • Someone stole a guitar valued at about $3,000 from the Guitar Center, 143 Skokie Valley Road, around 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 21.
  • Someone stole 15 items from the Target, 2099 Skokie Valley Road, for a loss of about $200.
  • An Amazon package delivered to the 1500 block of Sheridan Road was reportedly not delivered on Sept. 27.

THEFTS

  • On the evening of Aug. 23, police received a report that someone had stolen Apple AirPods from Highland Park High School, 433 Vine Ave., on Aug. 21.
  • Someone stole credit cards from a locker room at LA Fitness, 115 Skokie Valley Road, at some point between 4:30 and 6 p.m. on Aug. 23. The cards were later used to make several unauthorized purchases.
  • Around 2:45 p.m. on Aug. 27, police got a report that someone had stolen $1,900 worth of accessories from a tent at the Highland Park Art Fair in the 600 block of Central Ave.
  • Someone stole an electric portable heater from the public works maintenance room in a parking garage at St. Johns and Laurel avenues at some point prior to the morning of Sept. 1 for an estimated loss of $280.
  • Someone stole a backpack from Highland Park Hospital, 777 Park Avenue West, at some point prior to 11 a.m. on Sept. 7. The backpack contained a laptop, AirPods and cash.
  • At some point on Sept. 7, someone stole two packages from the strong doorstep of a home in the 3100 block of Warbler Place for a loss of about $13.
  • Two Amazon packages valued at about $120 combined were reported stolen from the front doorstep of a home in the 1100 block of Kent Avenue between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 7.
  • Three rings valued at about $33,000 were reported stolen from a home in the 2000 block of Skyelar Court on the afternoon of Sept. 14.
  • Someone stole about $860 from the register at the Extra Space Storage facility at 1610 Old Deerfield Road at some point between 12:30 and 5 p.m. on Sept. 22.
  • Two handguns were reported stolen from inside a safe in a home in the 2400 block of Highmoor Road at some point between July. 24 and Aug. 3, police were told on Sept. 23.
  • Someone stole a gold bracelet and ring from a person at Highland Park Hospital, 777 Park Ave. West, at some point prior to 7 p.m. on Sept. 27 for a loss of about $4,300.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFTS

  • Someone stole a catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius parked in a lot in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road during the night of Aug. 24 or morning of Aug. 25.
  • Someone stole a catalytic converter from a Prius parked in the 300 block of Barberry Road during the night of Aug. 25 or morning of Aug. 26.
  • Someone stole a catalytic converter from a Nissan van parked in a lot in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road on the night of Aug. 25 or morning of Aug. 26.
  • Someone stole a catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius parked in a lot in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road during the night of Sept. 3 or morning of Sept. 4.
  • Someone stole a catalytic converter from a Buick Lesabre parked in a lot in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road during the night of Sept. 15 or morning of Sept. 16.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone burglarized a possibly unlocked Volkswagen in the 1900 block of Elmwood Drive around 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 28, but nothing was reported stolen from inside.
  • Someone burglarized an unlocked Volvo in the 1900 block of Elmwood Drive around 3:45 a.m. on Aug. 28, but nothing was reported stolen from inside.
  • Someone burglarized a possibly unlocked Jeep in the 1900 block of Elmwood Drive at some point prior to 1:45 p.m. on Aug. 28, stealing a pair of shoes and set of keys from inside.
  • Someone stole cash, tools and boots from a possibly unlocked Acura parked in the 600 block of Homewood Avenue on the afternoon of Aug. 28.
  • Someone burglarized an unlocked Mazda in the 500 block of Sumac Road at some point prior to 9 a.m. on Sept. 15.
  • Someone stole a purse from the trunk of a Volkswagen Passat parked at the intersection of Oak Street and Walker Avenue.
  • Someone stole a bag, sunglasses and wallet from a possibly unlocked Kia Forte parked in the 500 block of Chicago Avenue prior to 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 27 for a loss of about $330.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • Someone punctured two tires of a car parked in a lot in the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Drive at some point prior to noon on Sept. 3.
  • Three of four tires of a car parked in the 1800 block of St Johns Avenue were punctured around 6 p.m. on Sept. 13.
  • The rear window of a Toyota parked in the 1000 block of Park Avenue West was smashed prior to 8 p.m. on Sept. 28.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Colin F. Chase, 18, of the 2100 block of Hybernia Drive, Highland Park, was arrested around 12:45 a.m. on Aug. 28 and charged with criminal damage to state-supported property, a class 4 felony. Police called to a report of a disturbance at the Casey's, 1333 Half Day Road, found Chase setting fire to mail in a mailbox and took him into custody.

A 55-year-old Highland Park woman turned herself in at the Highland Park Police Department around 9 p.m. on Aug. 30 on an active arrest warrant issued by Lake County authorities on a charge of misdemeanor disorderly conduct accusing her of filing a false report.

Frank Montano, 25, of the 1000 block of Indiana Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 1 and charged with failure to report an accident, operating an uninsured motor vehicle causing bodily harm and possession of an unspecified controlled substance. Police were dispatched to a report of a hit-and-run traffic crash in the 300 block of Skokie Valley Road. They later found Montano's car in the parking lot of a car dealership in the 500 block of Skokie Valley Road and took him into custody. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

Antiginee C. Brown, 24, of the 8600 block of South 86th Street, Justice, was arrested around 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 3 and charged with burglary and attempted possession of a controlled substance after police were called to the CVS at 2000 Skokie Valley Road for a report of fraud.

A 35-year-old Highland Park woman was arrested around 9 p.m. on Sept. 5 and charged with two counts of misdemeanor domestic battery after police were called to the 700 block of Concorde Drive for a report of a disturbance.

Larry G. Miller, 39, of the 2000 block of St. Johns Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested around 2 a.m. on Sept. 7 after police were dispatched to an incident at Sunset Woods Park, 1801 Sunset Road. Miller admitted he had a warrant and was taken into custody. The warrant had been issued for failure to appear in court to face charges of theft, vehicular trespassing and possession of a controlled substance.

Julio R. Martinez, 29, of the 700 block of Sheridan Road, Highwood, was arrested around 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 9 on an active arrest warrant and also charged with possession of a controlled substance after police were dispatched to a report of a disturbance in the 1200 block of Park Avenue West.

A 57-year-old Highland Park woman was arrested around 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 9 and charged with violation of bail bond and violation of an order of protection after police were dispatched to a report of a disturbance in the 900 block of Judson Avenue.

A 45-year-old Highland Park woman was arrested around 9:15 p.m. on Sept. 21 and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery after police were called to a domestic disturbance at her home in the 1500 block of Northland Avenue.
