Little league begins; music festival attracts local talent.

Charming Charlie, a women's fashion accessory chain, is opening up a location in the former Borders building at 595 Central Avenue. The store will take up 7,000-square-feet in the building, which is in the process of being split into separate rental spaces.

Little League begins Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sunset Park. To kick off the season, a commissioner of the  will throw out the first pitch.

Live music:  hosts its first ever ALL-DAY, ALL-AGES 2011 Music Festival from noon to midnight Saturday. Performers include Highland Park High School's Troubled Identity and Deerfield High School's Dixieland Kitchen. Food and drink specials will be available all day.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois hosts its annual Wish Ball fundraiser Saturday evening at UIC Forum. The  25-year-celebration includes celebrity host Dennis Miller and celebrity emcee Richard Roeper as well as Highland Park native and Make-A-Wish recipient Gabi Heller.

Are you in a band? Saturday is the last day for bands to enter Highland Park's sixth annual Battle of the Bands, a contest put on by and . Bands will battle every weekend in June, and semi-finalists will compete on a professional soundstage before the city's Fourth of July fireworks.
