HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a Nissan Armada from a parking lot in the 1500 block of Clavey Road at some point prior to 1 a.m. Oct. 11.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFT
Someone was reported to have been stealing catalytic converters from a parking lot in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road prior to 1:45 p.m. Oct. 20.

JEWELRY THEFT
Police were told on the afternoon of Oct. 21 that an unidentified thief stole more than $46,000 worth of jewelry from a home in the 600 block of Ridge Road.

  • Someone stole a pair of toilet fixture and a leaf-blower from a garage in the 3000 block of Greenwood Avenue prior to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 2 for a loss of about $400.
  • Someone stole a debit card from one of the rooms at Highland Park Hospital, 777 Park Ave. West, at some point prior to 3:45 p.m. Oct. 9, for a loss of about $1,400.
  • A customer at Taqueria Los Mogotes de Michoacán, 2069 Green Bay Road, reported that someone had stolen his wallet from his back pocket. Investigators had yet to review security camera footage at the time of the report.

SHOPLIFTING

  • Staff at the Walgreens, 655 Elm Place, reported on the night of Oct. 3 that an unidentified thief had stolen about $2,800 worth of cosmetic items.
  • Someone stole about $370 worth of alcohol from the Target, 2099 Skokie Valley Road, at some point prior to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11.
  • Someone stole a bottle of Casamigos tequila worth $55 from Binny's Beverage Depot, 153 Skokie Valley Road, prior to 6 p.m. Oct. 18.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • Two windows were broken and a door and another window was cracked at a home in the 500 block of Laurel Avenue prior to 11 a.m. Oct. 3.
  • Someone through a wine bottle through the back windshield of a car parked in the 700 block of Marion Avenue at some point prior to 9:15 a.m. Oct. 15, causing an unknown amount of damage.

SMASH-AND-GRABS

  • Someone smashed a window on a Honda and stole a backpack from inside while it was parked in the first block of Blackhawk Road prior to 10 a.m. Oct. 15.
  • Around 11:15 a.m. on Oct. 15, police were told someone had shattered a window on some kind of vehicle and stole a backpack while it was parked in the 700 block of St. Johns Avenue.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone got into an unlocked Hyundai in the 900 block of Judson Avenue prior to 8:30 a.m. Oct. 5. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • Someone got into two unlocked Nissans in the 900 block of St. Johns Avenue prior to 10:15 a.m. Oct. 5. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • Someone got into an unlocked Hyundai in the 1300 block of St. Johns Avenue prior to 1:45 p.m. on Oct. 5. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • Someone got into an unlocked Toyota in the 1100 block of Taylor Avenue prior to 10:45 a.m. on Oct. 6. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • Someone got into an unlocked Subaru in the 200 block of Linden Park Place prior to 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 8. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • Someone got into a possibly unlocked Dodge Durango in the 900 block of Auburn Avenue prior to 8:45 a.m. Oct. 12. Northing was reported stolen
  • Someone stole a St. Michael's coin and a Leatherman multitool from a possibly unlocked vehicle in the 2200 block of Midlothian Avenue prior to 11 a.m. Oct. 14.
  • Someone got into a unlocked Chevy parked in the first block of Blackhawk Road prior to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 15.
  • Someone forced their way into a car parked in the 2700 block of trail way and stole a blue purse from inside prior to 11:45 a.m. on Oct. 16.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 41-year-old Beach Park man was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 9 and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license after police pulled him over for speeding in the 1900 block of Skokie Valley Road.

A 47-year-old Evanston woman was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 11 and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license after police were called to a traffic crash in the 2400 block of Skokie Valley Road.

A 31-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver after police showed up at the scene of a traffic crash in the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road. He was also issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, unsafe U-turn and two counts of improper lane usage.

Joe Mitchell, 37, of the 6700 block of West Forest Preserve Drive, Harwood Heights, was arrested around 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 13 at his home on an active Lake County arrest warrant for residential burglary and theft of more than $10,000.

A 49-year-old Palos Park man was arrested on warrants for failure to appear in court in DuPage and Cook County after Highland Park police pulled him over for a driving complaint in the 2600 block of Skokie Valley Road around 1:45 a.m. on Oct. 15.

Cesar Castrejon, 40, of the 200 block of Washington Avenue, Highwood, was arrested around 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 15 after police were called to a "disturbance" at the Shell gas station at 2135 Green Bay Road. Prosecutors charged Castrejon with theft, battery and aggravated battery causing a severe or permanent disability.

A 43-year-old Zion woman was arrested around 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 18 and charged with disorderly conduct for a false 911 call, reckless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license and failure to give aid or information after police were called to a traffic crash at the intersection of Park Avenue West and Skokie Valley Road. Officers also cited her for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and disobeying a traffic light, traffic signal and stop sign.

A 27-year-old Blue Island man was arrested around 12:15 a.m. on Oct. 21 and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license after he was pulled over due to a lack of a rear license plate light. He was also cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and no rear registration plate light.

A 19-year-old Highland Park man was arrested around 5:15 a.m. on Oct. 21 and charged with consumption of alcohol by a person under 21 after officers showed up at the scene of a traffic crash in the 900 block of Park Avenue and determined he was intoxicated.

A 46-year-old Waukegan woman was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 22 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater after police were called about a reckless driver. She was also cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, failure to signal, improper lane usage and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol.
