Catalytic Converter Thefts, 65-Inch TV Stolen: Highland Park Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL – Highland Park police responded to a number of incidents over the past week which included a variety of criminal complaints.

RETAIL THEFT

A delayed report was received of a theft from the Target located at 2099 Skokie Valley Road was received by police at 12:53 p.m. on Aug. 15. Police said that at 7:54 p.m. on Aug. 14, an unknown suspect entered the store, placed a variety of electronics into a black hamper inside a cart, exited the store without paying for the items, and left in a white Honda CR-V, police said. The suspect was described as a woman wearing a black t-shirt with graphics on the front, jean shorts, dark sandals, dark sunglasses, and carrying a large tote bag. The total value of the stolen items was more than $1,100.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Officers responded to the 2400 block of Green Bay Road for a report of a burglary at 7:44 a.m. on Aug. 17. Sometime between 1:00 AM and 7:00 AM, an unknown person(s) entered a residence through an unlocked first-floor window, stole two sets of car keys, a wallet, a Prada purse also containing a wallet, and a 65-inch TV, police said. The value of the stolen items is unknown.

THEFT OF VEHICLE PARTS

Between 3 p.m. on Aug. 17 and 6:30 AM on Aug. 18, police said an unknown person(s) stole catalytic converters from two Chevrolet Vans while parked in the parking lot of the 3100 block of Skokie Valley Road. The estimated value of the loss is $3,000.

During the evening hours of Aug. 17, police said an unknown person(s) stole two catalytic converters from a blue Chevrolet pickup truck, and a black Jeep SUV while parked in the parking lot of the 3100 block of Skokie Valley Road. The estimated value of the loss is $3,000.

Between 7 p.m. on Aug. 17 and 9 a.m. on Aug. 18, police said an unknown person stole eight catalytic converters from a 2015 Chevy, 2009 Ford F350, 2014 Dodge Ram, 1996 Chevy, 2003 Toyota, 2017 Dodge Ram, 1994 Ford, and 2012 Jeep, while parked in the parking lot of the 2200 block of Skokie Valley Road.

THEFT

A delayed report was received of a theft from the LA Fitness located at 115 Skokie Valley Rd. on Aug. 19. Police said on July 8, an unknown person(s) gained access to a locked gym locker, stole a variety of credit cards, and used the credit cards fraudulently at other merchants.

Police said between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Aug. 18, an unknown person stole an unsecured black and red Onewheel Pint electric scooter while charging on the first floor of the Port Clinton garage located at 601 Laurel Ave. The estimated value of the loss is $2,000.
