Chicago Mike's Has Best Ice Cream In Highland Park Area: Survey

Located in the site of the defunct Highwood Fire Department, Chicago Mike's Ice Cream Co. was the most-recommended spot around town.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Ahead of National Ice Cream Day, Highland Park Patch asked readers for their recommendations for the best ice cream place in town.

The results are in, and one local creamery emerged as the clear local favorite.

Chicago Mike's Ice Cream Co. at 428 N. Green Bay Road, Highwood, was the top pick of more than 57 percent of the over 100 respondents to the unscientific reader survey.

The family-owned shop makes all of its ice cream on site in the historic Highwood firehouse, which was built in 1953, closed in 2016 and became an ice cream shop two years later.

Highland Park Patch readers raved about Chicago Mike's service, staff, ownership and homemade flavors.

"They use the best ingredients, they don’t skimp on whatever is in the ice cream flavor," a reader said, explaining what makes it the best in town.

"Delicious flavors for everyone, their lovely building with its cute mural and firehouse history, great outdoor and indoor seating," one reader said.

"The ice cream is delicious and creamy," said another. "The owners are so welcoming and nice!"

"Everything is so fresh and delicious! Also, they are great at handling food allergies," according to one respondent.

Dark chocolate truffle, hazel brew, funky monkey, cookie jar and twisted caramel crunch were among the most recommended flavors on offer at Chicago Mike's.
