Highland Park's McGovern House Plan Changes

If the City Council approves the plan, construction can begin as early as April, said City Planner Eric Olson.

The new year has brought new changes to the McGovern House, the six-story residential apartment building to be constructed on the southwest corner of Central Avenue and McGovern Street in Highland Park.

The City Planning Commission approved minor changes to the building’s development during its meeting Jan. 11.

The changes, according to City Planner Eric Olson, include:

  • that the bike shelter, part of the preliminary plan as previously reported by Patch, will be moved offsite because of spacing issues;
  • the type and placement of permeable concrete will be changed from the western alley to the tandem parking area to better accommodate storm water;
  • there will be 73 units instead of the previous 74, and;
  • there are two more additional parking spaces with the inclusion of a hydraulic lift to stack parked cars to allow for more cars in the lot.

The City Council is expected to vote on final approval for the project during its Jan. 25 meeting. If approved, the foundation will be placed and construction can potentially begin as soon as April, Olson said.
