City Delays Start of New 3-Tiered Water Rate Plan

The new water rate structure will go into effect Aug. 1, reports the Highland Park News.

The City of Highland Park was expected to implement a new three-tiered water rate plan for all single-family residences on July 1, but that plan has been pushed back to Aug. 1, reports the Highland Park News.

The reason for the delay is weather-related issues have resulted in an extra month of estimated water bills instead of actual readings.

The three-tiered rate plan applies to all single-family residences in which citizens utilizing a higher volume of water may see changes in water rates, according to the city's website.

The base rate for water usage of 6,000-cubic feet or less (per quarter) will be $1.81 per unit (rate per 100-cubic-feet).

The rate for usage of 6,001 to 8,000-cubic-feet will be $1.99 per unit, and $2.08 for usage of 8,001-cubic-feet and above, according to the city.
