City To Discuss Permanent Memorial For Highland Park Shooting
City officials are expected to continue discussions about a permanent place of remembrance to honor the victims of the July 2022 shooting.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The next planning meeting for the permanent place of remembrance to commemorate the memories of the seven people killed at the2022 Independence Day parade in Highland Park is scheduled for Wednesday.
The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
Officials said planning for the place of remembrance is anticipated to be a multi-year, transparent process. There is a temporary memorial located adjacent to Highland Park City Hall at 1707 St. Johns Avenue

Formed in September 2023, the Working Group is made up of Kati, City Manager Ghida Neukirch, Mayor Nancy Rotering, Councilmember Anthony Blumberg, Park District of Highland Park Executive Director Brian Romes and Josselyn Community Engagement Manager Gaby Valverde Strobehn.
The working group has been meeting since November 2023 and is responsible for providing research and recommendations to the City Council. The meetings are open to the public and updates can be found at hpremembrance.org.
