City Preps For Holiday Lights In Business Districts

Crews are completing tree pruning and light maintenance in preparation for the holiday season.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Work is underway in Highland Park to trim and maintain trees in the business district in preparation for the holiday season.

Beginning Monday, the Public Works Department - Forestry Section will prune trees in the Central and Ravinia business districts. Over the next few weeks, crews will prune trees in conflict with structures, raise trees that are too low and remove deadwood.

Depending on weather and conflict with parking and traffic, work in specific areas is expected to last three to four days at a time. This week, crews will also begin annual repair and replacement work for the holiday lights.

To minimize conflicts with parking and traffic, crews will begin work at 5 a.m. and may be working on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The city warned there may be noise from construction equipment in impacted areas.

Work on the City's holiday lights will continue until mid-November and will take place at night to minimize interruptions for pedestrians and vehicles. Work will begin in Downtown Highland Park and then progress to the Ravinia Business District in the second week of October.
