Cops Fatally Shoot Man With Knife: Highland Park Police
Police were dispatched just before 5 a.m. to check the well-being of a man in the roadway, officials said.
HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Highland Park officers fatally shot a man who charged at them with a knife during a wellness check early Friday, police said.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Half Day Road at 4:53 a.m. for a report of a man in the road.
When they arrived to check his well-being, police say the man charged at them with a knife. "Given the imminent threat, they fired," police said.

Police called for paramedics, who arrived at 5:04 a.m., and began life-saving measures that were unsuccessful, according to officials.
"The Highland Park Police Department called in the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force to conduct an independent investigation," police said in a statement. "Per state law, Lake County will assume responsibility for the investigation and will provide further updates."

The 900 block of Half Day Road remained closed between Western and Compton due to police activity.
Police said there is no threat to public safety but asked residents to avoid the area to allow investigators to work.
