'Crazy Quilts' Head to Highland Park

Local resident's quilts the focus of new historical society exhibit.

The  will have the "Crazy Quilts and More by Addie Mangoian Davis" exhibit beginning July 1.

An anchor site for the Northern Illinois Quilt Fest, the museum is using the display to spotlight Davis, a Highland Park resident. Quilting programs, demonstrations and workshops are among the scheduled activities.

According to the historical society's website, Davis stitches together vintage silks, velvets and satins to construct each quilt block.

“I couldn’t even sew on a loose button,” Davis said in a news release about the event. “But ... I fell in love with Crazy Quilts and I was determined to make them.”

The museum, whose hours are 1-4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, is at 326 Central Ave. Admission to the exhibit is $5, and special group tours are available upon request.
