Fire Tears Through Highland Park Home, Leading To Partial Collapse
The Wednesday morning blaze led to traffic delays on nearby Lake Cook Road.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — A fire destroyed the roof of a house in a Highland Park subdivision Wednesday morning.
Fire crews were called to a single-story ranch house in the first block of Country Lane shortly before 6 a.m.
By the time firefighters arrived, the blaze had already burned through the roof, leading to a partial collapse of the structure, according to fire officials.

Dispatchers informed fire crews that all residents had managed to get out of the house but that there were still possibly pets inside.
Firefighters eventually rescued several pets, including a fish, a turtle and a cat. The location of a second car was unknown as of Wednesday afternoon.

Other area fire departments assisted Highland Park firefighters, including Northfield, Northbrook, Lake Forest, Glencoe, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Deerfield-Bannockburn and the Countryside Fire Protection District, city staff said.
No firefighters were injured. Paramedics evaluated several people for injuries, but no one was reportedly taken to hospital.
No information was immediately available regarding how long it took to bring the fire under control.
The blaze caused extensive damage, and fire officials said its cause was undetermined.
