HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
PACKAGE THEFT
Someone stole three packages worth a combined $150 that had been delivered by Amazon to an unspecified business in the 1500 block of Skokie Valley Road at some point after 3 p.m. on Aug. 21.
RUSE HOME BURGLARY
A trio of burglars stole jewelry and a watch from a home in the 3000 block of Centennial Lane prior to 4 p.m. on Aug. 22 after one of them convinced a resident that their water supply had been contaminated by bacteria. After the unidentified ruse burglar — described as a heavyset male, wearing a brown bandana covering his face, dark sunglasses, a long-sleeved black shirt, black overalls and some kind of lanyard — entered the home and turned on the water, two more men or boys entered the home and stole the property before all three left in a gray SUV with dealership plates.

HOME BURGLARIES
- Someone forced their way into a home in the 1000 block of Marion Avenue through a sliding glass door and ransacked the interior between 2 and 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 22, stealing jewelry and cash from the master bedroom and walk-in closet.
- Around 4 p.m. on Aug. 23, a silver SUV with dealer plates backed into the driveway of a home in the 1300 block of Sherwood Road, and at some point prior to 6:30 p.m., someone broke in through the back door and ransacked the home, stealing an unknown amount of jewelry from inside.
- Someone broke into a home in the 2400 block of Green Bay Road by forcing open the front door between 4:45 p.m. Aug. 27 and 6 a.m. Aug. 28, ransacking multiple rooms and stealing an unknown amount of cash.
- Someone stole an Apple laptop, tablet and watch, as well as an engagement ring, from a possibly unlocked home in the 2700 block of Lauretta Avenue between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 1 for a combined loss of about $7,500.
- Officers called to a home in the 2000 block of Skyelar Court on the afternoon of Sept. 7 found pry marks on a back door, but at the time they did not think anyone had gotten inside. Three days later, a diamond wedding ring, a diamond and gold necklace, two diamond earrings and and cash were reported missing for an unspecified loss.
CAR BURGLARIES
Someone got into a possibly unlocked Toyota pickup truck parked in the 2500 block of Highwood Avenue during the night of Sept. 1 or morning of Sept. 2, stealing $80 in cash, a debit card and a 30 prescription pills.

SHOPLIFTING
- Staff at the Target, 2099 Skokie Valley Road, reported on Aug. 25 that someone had stolen about $1,190 worth of items from the store around 9 p.m. on Aug. 18. The shoplifter, who stole various amounts of groceries and over-the-counter drugs before leaving in a older brown Jeep, was described as a 30- to 40-year-old white man with a medium build, long brown hair and a star tattoo on his left inner elbow wearing a black hat, white t-shirt and orange shoes.
- Staff at the Ulta Beauty, 135 Skokie Valley Road, reported on Sept. 1 that someone had stolen nearly $1,600 worth of fragrances from the store around 1:15 p.m. that day after placing them into a large purse and leaving. The suspect was described as a 5-foot, 8-inch-tall, 20- to 30-year-old black woman, weighing about 120 pounds with a thin build, long braids and a full-sleeve tattoo featuring a black rose on her left arm.
- On Sept. 6, staff at Ulta reported that, at an unspecified time, an "unknown female" had stolen $969 worth of fragrances while also managing to convince workers at the store to accept a counterfeit $100 in exchange for a $10 gift card and $90 in legal tender.
THEFT
Two non-motorized scooters valued at $99 each were stolen from a home in the 1900 block of Green Bay Road between Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
- Someone scratched and knocked over a Vespa motorcycle while it was parked at the Ravinia train station, 510 Roger Williams Ave., between 3 p.mm. Aug. 27 and 6 p.m. Aug. 28.
- At some point between 9 p.m. Aug. 29 and 8 a.m. Aug. 30, someone shattered the rear window of a Jeep SUV that had been parked in a lot in the 1700 block of Second Street. Officer reported finding a broken holiday-themed mug on the ground nearby.
- An unidentified "tall male," wearing a light-colored hat and hooded sweatshirt, shattered a first-floor bathroom window of a home in the 1600 block of Snapdragon Court with a rock in a possible attempt to get inside.
- Police were told a former tenant damaged an apartment in the 300 block of Park Avenue, shattering a window panel, breaking bathroom titles, removing a shower head, leaving holes in walls, a soiled carpet and a damaged heater. A table and stool set valued at $600 was also stolen, police were told.
THEFT FROM VEHICLE
Someone stole a catalytic converter from a Honda SUV parked in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road during the night Sept. 8 or morning of Sept. 9 for a loss of $1,000.
VANDALISM
- Someone spray-painted graffiti on a utility box on the northwest corner of Lincoln Avenue West and Linden Avenue, drawing an arrow and leaving a tag in black writing at some point prior to the evening of Sept. 8.
- At some point between 11:45 p.m. Sept. 8 and 12:16 a.m. Sept. 9, someone drew on a building and transformer west of the water plant at 10 Park Ave., leaving an anarchy emblem, phallic symbol and possible gang sign.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Jacob A. Firestone, 18, of the 1300 block of St. Johns Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested and charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor and minor in possession of liquor around 8 p.m. on Aug. 25 at the McDonald's, 1988 First St., after police were called for a report of public intoxication there. Officers found Firestone to be drunk and carrying multiple bottles of alcohol in a backpack.
Arrenz Glenn T. Sion, 38, of the 1900 block of Sunshine Lane, Zion, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 26 and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and driving with a suspended or revoked license after officers were called to Lakeside Place and Braeside Road for a report that a car stolen from Gurnee had been abandoned there.
Walter D. Hargrove, 27, of the 300 block of Lake Street, Waukegan, was arrested around 8:45 a.m. on Aug. 27 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and driving with a suspended or revoked license after officers were called to a traffic crash at Route 41 and Clavey Road. Hargrove, who was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, had crashed into another car and the center median.
Wayne E. Christmas, 62, of the 2200 block of South Clark Street, Chicago, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 on an active arrest warrant issued after his failure to appear in court in connection with charges filed by Metra police after officers were called to an apartment complex at 760 Central Ave. for a well-being check.
Alexander C. Hansen, 27, of the 37300 block of North Hillside Drive, Lake Villa, was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, leaving the scene of a vehicle damage accident and unlawful possession of a hypodermic needle in connection with a report of a hit-and-run traffic crash at Skokie Valley Road and Park Avenue West. After being pulled over at Green Bay Road and Elm Place, Hansen was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, using an unsafe tire, driving without insurance and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
Alvin Anderson III, 49, of the 1100 block of Center Street in Racine, Wisconsin, was arrested around 4 a.m. on Aug. 28 and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater, driving without a license and endangering the health of a child following a traffic stop at Skokie Valley Road and Park Avenue West. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Darryl B. Smith, 43, of the 3700 block of Nevada Court, North Chicago, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 29 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop at Skokie Valley Road and Park Avenue West. He was also issued citations for speeding and improper lane usage.
Erdenesaikhan Adilsaikhan, 24, of the 600 block of Pleasure Drive, Mundelein, was arrested around 4 a.m. on Aug. 29 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop at Half Day Road and Skokie Valley Road. He was also issued citations for speeding and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Maria Rosendo, 22, of the 6000 block of Homewood Avenue in Highwood, was issued a citation for theft on Aug. 30 after she was accused of stealing lottery tickets and cash from her employer, Bucky's Mobile, 2580 Skokie Valley Road.
Yaner T. Bayramli, 33, of the 500 block of Roger Williams Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 31 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault and two counts of domestic battery after officers were called to his home for a report of a fight at his home.
Markis M. Vinson, 36, of the 800 block of North Massaoit Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 7 a.m. on Sept. 1 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and with a suspended or revoked license after officers called for a well-being check in the first block of South Deere Park Drive east found him asleep in the back of a car with its engine running in an ongoing traffic lane. He was also issued a citation for improper lane usage.
Diego Rosas, 20, of the 1500 block of McDaniels Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested around 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 1 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, unlawful use of cannabis by a driver, driving without a license and possession of drug paraphernalia after lost control while driving west on Bob-O-Link Road and crashed into a light pole and tree in the 1300 block of McDaniels Avenue. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Michael A. Smith, 54, of the 100 block of South Western Avenue, Chicago was arrested Sept. 2 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly pointed a gun at another car while waiting in traffic after an Aug. 28 concert concluded at Ravinia Festival.
Benjamin Hughes, 33, of the 1600 block of Alexander Court, Waukegan, was arrested around 2:15 a.m. on Sept. 4 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding more than 35 mph over the limit following a traffic stop at 2600 Skokie Valley Road.
Shelby T. Brown, 30, of the 11200 block of South Loomis Street, Chicago, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 5 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after officers dispatched to a complaint of bad driving pulled her over near Park Avenue West and Skokie Valley Road. She was also issued citations for improper stop at red light, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, failure to signal when required, disobeying a traffic control light and improper lane usage.
Scott Bryan Silver, 56, of the 6100 block of North Sheridan Road, Chicago, was arrested around 12:15 a.m. on Sept. 6 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at Skokie Valley and Clavey roads. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, driving without lights when required, improper stop at single red light and failure to signal when required.
Andrew Phillip Dean, 35, of the 3800 block of Madison Street in Gary, Indiana, was arrested around 6:15 a.m. on Sept. 6 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after officers were called to a report of a two-car crash at Skokie Valley Road and Chantilly Road. He was also issued citations of failure to display proof of insurance and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
William T. Henning, 64, of the 1000 block of Lotus Drive, Round Lake Beach, was arrested around 5:45 p.m. on Sept. 7 at Ravinia Festival, 201 St. Johns Avenue, and charged with attempted possession of a controlled substance after festival security notified police that they found some drugs in a backpack.
Kyle A. Viti, 24, of the 100 block of Pleasant Avenue, Highwood, was arrested around 7 p.m. on Sept. 8 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police were called to the intersection of Green Bay Road and Central Avenue for a report of a car stopped in the road.
Kelin Moore, 31, of the 3100 block of West 60th Street, Chicago, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 10 in the 1800 block of Park Avenue and cited with violation of solicitor registration requirements and criminal damage after police received numerous complaints about a solicitor using aggressive sales tactics and determined he had caused $150 in damage to a landscaping light in the 2000 block of Painters Lake Road in a previous incident.
