Hit-And-Run Leads To DUI Arrest For Highland Park Woman: Blotter
Shoplifters keep targeting cosmetics store; four bicycles reported stolen; lockbox missing after cleaning: Highland Park Police Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
PACKAGE THEFT
Someone stole two packages from the common area of a residential building in the 1200 block of Park Avenue West prior to about 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 1 for a loss of about $220.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone caused about $200 in damage to the sprinkler system on the tennis courts in the 1800 block of Sunset Road prior to 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 4.

THEFT OF LOST OR UNATTENDED ITEM
Police were told that car keys for rental vehicle were stolen after they were left unattended by the fountain drinks at the McDonald’s, 1988 1st St., at some point prior to 1 p.m. on Aug. 8.
SHOPLIFTING

- An unidentified shoplifter stole an unknown amount of Rogaine hair products from the Walgreens store at 655 Elm Place prior to 4:15 p.m. on July 31.
- At some point prior to 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 1, an unidentified person store an unknown amount of cosmetic products from the Walgreens at 632 Roger Williams Ave. for an unknown loss.
- Someone stole about $2,600 worth of items from the Target at 2099 Skokie Valley Road, including merchandise such as baby items, routers and electric coffee mugs at some point prior to Aug. 6.
- At some point prior to 2 p.m. on Aug. 8, Someone went into the Ulta Beauty at 135 Skokie Valley Road and stole three Dyson brand hairdryers for a loss of about $1,300.
- Someone stole about $1,500 worth of items from the Ulta beauty at 135 Skokie Valley Rd. at around 1 p.m. on Aug. 9.
- Two people stole various items worth about $2,200 from the Ulta beauty at 135 Skokie Valley Road on Aug. 18, police were told the following day.
- Around 4 p.m. on Aug. 19, two people entered the Ulta Beauty at 135 Skokie Valley Road and stole various items for an estimated lost about $850, police were told the following day.
BIKE THEFTS
- Someone stole a possibly unlocked red Trek bicycle from the back patio of the home in the 1500 block of Green Bay Road prior to 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 7.
- Someone stole two bicycles from a possibly open garage of a home in the 600 block of Broadview Avenue at some point between Aug. 3 and Aug. 7.
- Someone stole a possibly unsecured gray Cannondale bicycle worth about $750 from the back of a home in the 500 block of Roger Williams Avenue prior to 3 p.m. on Aug. 17.
THEFTS FROM HOMES
- Around 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 2, police were told that a small lockbox was missing after a home was cleaned. The box contained a passport, drivers license, Social Security card, checks and cash.
- Someone stole checks from a home in the 2000 block of Sheridan Road and cashed six of them between May and June for a loss of about $7,000, police were told on Aug. 2.
CAR BURGLARIES
- At some point between 3 p.m. on Aug. 4 and 2 p.m. on Aug. 5, someone broke into a possibly unlocked car the 2600 block of Western Avenue and stole a purse containing debit cards and various forms of identification.
- Someone stole the keys from a possibly unlocked vehicle in the 400 block of Blackhawk Road prior to the morning of Aug. 9.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Rachel A. Leshchinsky, 45, of the 600 block of Homewood Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 6 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of a traffic crash after police were dispatched to a collision in the 1300 block of Half Day Road. She was also issued citations for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol, no valid registration, improper turn and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
Angela Taylor, 40, of the 1500 block of South Albany Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on Aug. 14 after officers called to a report of a disturbance in the 1700 block of Second Street learned that she had two active arrest warrants issued by authorities in Cook County.
Anthony J. White Jr., 26, of the 1500 block of Pitner Avenue, Evanston, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 15 and charged with battery after police were called to Pro Towing, 3232 Skokie Valley Road, for a report that White had battered someone there.
Tyrone A. Overton, 62, of the 200 block of South Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Waukegan, was arrested around 3:15 a.m. on Aug. 16 after officers pulled him over in the 2800 block of Skokie Valley Road over his suspended registration. They learned he had an active warrant for failure to appear in DuPage County court and took him into custody. Overton was also charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license, registration and ticketed for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.
David Galan, 35, of the 3000 block of Summit Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested around 11 p.m. on Aug. 16 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater amid an investigation into a traffic crash in the 2200 block of Skokie Valley Road. He was also ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
Jorge Aguilar Cerroblanco, 32, of the 1600 block of Sheffield Drive, Elgin, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 17 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Half Day and Skokie Valley roads over failure to follow a traffic control device. Police learned he had an active warrant for failure to appear in Kane County court and also charged him with not having a valid driver's license.
