HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a Mazda SUV from a driveway in the 1000 block of Andean Place between 2 and 6 a.m. on Jan. 16 after the keys were left inside.

SHOPLIFTING
Someone stole batteries and a set of wrenches worth about $258 from the Mutual Ace Hardware, 1393 Half Day Road, on or before the afternoon of Jan. 19 before leaving in a Chevrolet pickup truck.

HOME BURGLARIES

  • Officers dispatched to an activated burglar alarm at a home in the 2000 block of Bertram Lane around 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 18 arrived to find someone had broken in through a sliding door in the back of the home. Nothing appeared to have been disturbed inside, although police found several wires had been cut on a cable box at the side of the home.
  • Around 7:45 p.m. on Jan. 18, police were called to the 800 block of Harvard Court for a report of a residential burglary. They found someone had stolen "various amounts" of designer bags and jewelry from the home.
  • Around 8 p.m. on Jan. 18, officers dispatched to a report of a home burglary in the 600 block of Onwentsia Avenue found that someone had forced open a door and stole watches, bracelets, rings and cash from inside.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone got into an unlocked garage in the 1700 block of Elmwood Drive and burglarized an unlocked car during the night of Jan. 15 or morning of Jan. 16. Items were taken out of the glove compartment and center console but nothing was reported stolen.
  • During the night of Jan. 15 or morning of Jan. 16, someone rummaged through an unlocked Toyota SUV parked in a driveway in the 1800 block of Cherry Lane. Nothing was missing at the time of the report.
  • Someone took items out of the glove compartment of an unlocked Subaru parked in a driveway in the 1000 block of Cherry Lane on the night of Jan. 15 or morning of Jan. 16.
  • During the night of Jan. 16 or morning of Jan. 17, someone rummaged through two unlocked Chevrolet SUVs parked in the 800 block of Burton Avenue, but nothing was reported stolen.
  • Someone stole 10 tubes of lipstick and dental equipment from inside an unlocked Toyota SUV parked in the 1100 block of Ridgewood Avenue during the night of Jan. 17 and morning of Jan. 18.

THEFTS

  • Someone stole two credit cards from inside a wallet at the LA Fitness, 115 Skokie Valley Road, between 8:40 and 10 a.m. on Jan. 24. There were no unauthorized charges made to the cards.
  • During the night of Jan. 27, someone stole a OGIO royal blue golf bag containing a set of golf clubs and accessories valued at about $5,000 after they were left overnight at an underground parking space in the 1600 block of Lake Cook Road.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Neal Markues Davon, 25, of the 8300 block of South Maryland Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 27 and charged with resisting arrest resulting in an injury and possession of a fictitious driver's license after police were called to the AT&T store at 59 Skokie Valley Road for a report of deceptive practices. Officers found Davon had used fake identification at the store before trying to flee.

Martin Figueroa-Cervantes, 28, of the 1400 block of 56th Court, Cicero, was arrested around 5:45 a.m. on Jan. 28 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license and resisting arrest resulting in injury after police pulled him over in the 1300 block of Half Day Road for speeding. Officers determined Figueroa-Cervantes, who also had an active arrest warrant, was impaired and also issued him citations for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol, operating a vehicle with expired registration and speeding.
