HP Police Out in Force During Memorial Day DUI Crackdown
The initiative, which will also target seatbelt violators, runs May 9-26.
Highland Park police will be out in force the next couple weeks during the annual Memorial Day crackdown on drunk drivers and seatbelt law violators.
The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign runs May 9-26. It will include high visibility enforcement in Highland Park, as well as in other North Shore communities.
The seatbelt enforcement will apply to both front and backseat riders. In 2012, back seat passengers accounted for 46 fatalities and more than 5,000 injuries in Illinois. Of the 46 people killed, 30 were not wearing seatbelts, according to a release from the City of Highland Park.
