HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Cities and villages across the country continue to bring back many of the traditional Independence Day activities that were either canceled or modified the last two years. With July 4 less than two weeks away, it's time to find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you in 2022.
We have all the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in Highland Park to start planning for the holiday.
Here's what's in store this July 4 in Highland Park:

What: Children's Bike and Pet Parade
When: 9:30 a.m. (participants gather 15 minutes ahead of start, no registration required)
Where: Parking structure at northwest corner St. Johns and Lauren avenues.
What: Fourth of July Parade
When: 10 a.m.
Where: Parade begins at Lauren and St. Johns avenues and heads from St. Johns to Central Avenue and concludes at Sunset Park.

What: Fourth Fest
When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Sunset Park, 1801 Sunset Road, Highland Park.
Live music from Maggie Speaks, bounce attractions, carnival games, a rock climbing wall, face painting and more are scheduled. Wristbands providing access to unlimited rides are available for $20 ahead of the event and $25 in cash at the event.
What: Concert & Fireworks
When: 3:45 p.m. ahead of fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
Where: Wolters Field
Fireworks return to Highland Park with the grand finale concert of the Bitter Jester Music Festival, with food vendors on site during the concert leading up to the fireworks. Parking will be available at the Wolters Field, Highland Park Hospital East Parking Lot 3 and Recreation Center of Highland Park/The Preserve of Highland Park parking lots, organizers announced.
The parade for kids and pets is sponsored by the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce, the city and park district of Highland Park are sponsoring the main parade and the Fourth Fest event is presented by Highland Park Bank & Trust.
Then, nearly three weeks later, in neighboring Highwood, Taco Fest and Highwood Day is set to bring carnival to downtown Metra Station parking lot and a taco fest in Everts Park from July 21 to July 24.
