Featured Obituary:
Lea Ferguson Owens (87) of Northbrook, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on January 30, 2024. In her final days, Lea was surrounded by her devoted and loving family and cherished friends, reflecting the warmth and care she extended to all throughout her life.
Born on February 14, 1936, in Evanston, IL - a Valentine’s Day gift to all who knew her - Lea’s journey was one of passion, dedication, and boundless love. A proud graduate of New Trier High School, she furthered her education at Michigan State University, where her spirit of collegiality and leadership shone brightly as a pitcher for the softball team and an active sorority member. Lea’s academic achievements culminated in earning a teaching degree, setting the stage for her lifelong commitment to nurturing young minds.
For three decades, Lea bestowed her kindness, wisdom, and joy upon countless children at Meadowbrook Elementary School, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. Her legacy as a kind-hearted educator and mentor is cherished by many, echoing her profound impact on generations of students and their families.
Lea was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, whose passions enriched the lives of those around her. An avid art enthusiast, Lea’s creative spirit found joy in sketching, sculpting, and volunteering at the Chicago Art Institute, where she shared her appreciation for beauty and expression. Her love for the theatre, music, and gardening were rivaled only by the joy she found in spending quality time with her grandchildren, Coty and Evan, and engaging in lively lunches, game nights, and book club discussions with friends.Read more via N.
