Featured Obituary:
Barbara was a devoted mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother, and faithful sister and friend. She died at the age of 97 on July 20th at Sedgebrook's Radford Green in Lincolnshire, IL. Funeral Mass will be at Sacred Heart Church in Winnetka, IL on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation is prior to Mass beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Barbara was born on March 10, 1925, to John and Elizabeth (Stubbs) Orrick in Kansas City, Missouri. The oldest of 11 children, Barbara is preceded in death by her parents John (1968) and Elizabeth (2002), her sisters Betty Benigno (2016), Mary Clemmer (2010), Janet Covan (2018), and her brothers John (2009), James (2016), and Paul (2016).
Bobbie is survived by the most precious people in her life ... her only child and daughter Sandra Lyons and son-in-law John Lyons, her grandsons Jason Lyons (Melissa), Jeremy Lyons, and Justin Lyons,, her great-grandchildren Madeleine, Annabelle, Lilianne, Miles, Marley, Micky, and McKinley, her brothers Michael Orrick of Overland Park, KS. and Patrick Orrick (Jan Marie) of Bella Vista, AR., and sisters Katherine Purinton and Nancy Hall of Kansas City, KS; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bobbie was a proud resident of the Kansas City, MO area most of her life. She graduated from Southeast High School, Kansas City, MO in 1942 and was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy WAVES during WWII from November 1943 to July, 1946 where she obtained the rank of Chief Yeoman. She was proud of her service, and always wore her Naval uniform to Veteran Day ceremonies. She was employed as a real estate professional and oversaw commercial property management and mortgage originations during her long career, until her retirement in 1997 from Fishman & Company, Olathe, KS. She was a member of local, state, and national real estate boards, Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe, and Friends of Art at Nelson Gallery. She accomplished a major goal, when she received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Avila College. Kansas City, MO in 1984.
Bobbie moved to Lincolnshire, IL in 2008 to be close to her daughter and family. She became active in the Sedge brook Community and was a member of the Line Dancing ensemble and the Old Vets Club. She enjoyed her nightly dinners with friends, walks, and exercise classes each morning. In 2014, Bobbie participated in an "Honor Flight" trip with her daughter. She was quoted as saying, "We're a rare breed these days. All WWII vets are, especially women."Read more via Donnellan Family Funeral Services »
