Featured Obituary:

Mia Scholz, 55, of Lake Forest died July 1, 2022 in the comfort of her home with her family after a six-year battle with ovarian cancer.

She is the wife of Matthew (married 19 years); mother of Henry and Beatrice; daughter of John Kreis and the late Sandra Kreis; sister of the late Lance Kreis.

She is also survived by numerous extended family members and a wonderful network of dear, supportive friends in the Lake Forest and Lake Bluff area.

Mia was born in Coshocton, OH. Growing up in Coshocton she enjoyed swimming, horseback riding and hunting for attractive examples of early American furniture and decorative art. She graduated in 1988 from Miami University with a B.S. in Accountancy. After graduation, she moved to Chicago to begin an 11-year career at Arthur Andersen before moving on to work with Walgreens…one of her long-time Andersen audit clients…for the next 16 years until her retirement in 2015 as Controller.

She married Matt in 2003 and together they bought a home in Lake Forest and began to build their family.

Mia was intensely focused on her children’s happiness & success. She derived special pleasure from helping Henry pursue his passion for sailing and helping Beatrice advance her equestrian skills. She was an active walker and loved to travel to beautiful, remote locations, esp. those with mountains. She happily put her commitments to family and work ahead of her own pursuits but was always fascinated to read about explorers who pushed themselves to the limits of mental and physical endurance. Integrity, loyalty, focus, persistence, and perseverance were some of her many strengths.
