Featured Obituary:
Allen Kelson, 82. Beloved husband for 55 years of Carla (nee Lipson); devoted father of David Kelson and Melina Kelson; proud grandfather of Juliet Kelson, Madeleine (Victoria Butler) Kelson, Jordan Podolsky, Shane Kelson, and Dylan Podolsky; dear brother of Edward (Lorel) Kelson and Susan (Larry) Storck; caring uncle of Lisa (Tom) Kermgard, Daniel (Rachel Powers) Kelson, Marnie (Greg) Pedersen, Paul (Heather Nunn) Storck, and Kerri Storck; and deeply missed by daughter-in-law Jennifer Diamond and son-in-law Peter Podolsky.
Allen’s professional life began as a copywriter for Sears, but it was launched when he joined WMFT’s Chicago Guide as the editor-in-chief, reporter, photographer, designer, typist and PR agent, who covered the arts and dining. When Chicago Magazine was formed, he would work through the ranks as the editor-and-chief, publisher, and director of the Magazine’s most popular feature, the dining guide.
Allen was a deeply curious person who cherished creative expression. He traveled to more than 26 countries, soaking up cuisine, lifestyles, arts, and history. He invested his free time in continuing to learn and explore and sharing those wonders with everyone around him.
Instead of flowers, Allen would have preferred memorial contributions to WTTW or NPR.Read more via Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home »
